First Publications in the Common Turkic Alphabet Presented in Ankara

Today in Ankara, at a presentation organized jointly with TÜRKSOY, the Turkic Academy unveiled the first books published in the Common Turkic Alphabet - “Qara Sözder” (Book of Words) by Abay Kunanbayuly and “Aq Keme” (The White Ship) by Chingiz Aitmatov.

The event brought together President of the Turkic Academy Shahin Mustafaev, TÜRKSOY Secretary General Sultan Raev, Director of the Chingiz Aitmatov Institute in Türkiye Ilyas Topsakal, Chair of the Ahmet Cevat Institute Ruhi Ersoy, Chair of the Atatürk Supreme Council for Culture, Language and History Derya Örs, Chair of Türkiye’s UNESCO National Commission Ocal Oguz, renowned linguist Ahmet Bijan Ercilasun, as well as representatives of the diplomatic corps and the academic community from across the Turkic world.

In his speech, Prof. Dr. Shahin Mustafaev recalled that the agreement on the structure of the Common Turkic Alphabet was reached during the third meeting of the Commission on the Unified Alphabet of the Turkic World, held in September 2024 in Baku. He emphasized that the implementation of the project is based on the provisions of the Nakhchivan Agreement, the Vision of the Turkic World - 2040, and the Charter of the Turkic Academy.

“Publishing the works of Abay Kunanbayuly and Chingiz Aitmatov in the new alphabet contributes to the preservation and study of the literary heritage of the Turkic peoples,” Mustafaev stated.

In conclusion, the Academy President expressed his gratitude to TÜRKSOY and all participants for their contribution to the preparation of these publications, affirming that the Turkic Academy will continue producing books and conducting research projects dedicated to studying the cultural and scientific heritage of the Turkic countries.

During the event, Turkic Academy experts Aynur Mayemerova and Nurdin Useyev delivered presentations detailing the content and unique features of the publications, providing attendees with an in-depth understanding of the methodology and significance of the works.

The ceremony concluded with President Shahin Mustafaev being awarded the TÜRKSOY Gold Medal in recognition of the Academy’s contribution to the study, promotion, and development of the cultural heritage of the Turkic peoples.
