President of the Turkic Academy Speaks at the 20th Turkish History Congress

Today, on 26 October, President of the Turkic Academy, Prof. Dr. Shahin Mustafayev spoke at the 20th Turkish History Congress, taking place in Ankara from 26 to 30 October 2026. The international academic forum brings together around 300 scholars from 30 countries to present their research on the history of Turkic peoples and Türkiye.

Held every four years since 1932, the congress covers a broad range of historical topics, from the ancient civilizations of Anatolia and the history of Central Asia to the Ottoman period and the history of the Republic of Türkiye.

In his presentation, Mustafayev spoke about the preparation of a collective work on the history of Turkic countries and outlined the project’s main research objectives. He emphasized the importance of cooperation among historians from different countries, the harmonization of methodological approaches, and the study of interconnected historical processes while taking national particularities into account.

“Shared history does not mean abandoning national histories, and the harmonization of scholarly approaches should not come at the expense of simplifying historical reality,” President of the Turkic Academy noted.

He also shared the Academy’s experience in organizing international congresses on the history of Turkic statehood and stressed that the development of a shared historical narrative should be based on scholarly dialogue, respect for different historiographical traditions, and recognition of the common heritage of Turkic peoples.
